Blasting art

The London based artist Aoife van Linden Tol (her frist name is pronounced Eefa - for all the Germans and other people not familiar with Irish names; I didn't know either) is participating in the exhibition Achtung Sprengarbeiten in the NGBK Berlin. She asked people to send in things they wanted her to blow up. I send in this old ID card that I never really used because I was living in Germany and only needed my passport. I quite like how it came out. It adds so many layers to this simple artefact. National identity, the war in Yugoslavia, the coming apart of the country, the land mines still lying around in Bosnia and I guess Kosovo, all these associations come to mind. I also send in another piece – a picture of Tito who now has a big hole in his throat. Karl Heinz Jeron documented Aoife blasting the artefacts on the exhibition blog. ... Link |
